Christel Ibsen: Harbour Heights’ Very Own International Artist

Christel Ibsen, Harbour Heights resident and internationally known artist

“My paintings evolve from working in the creative fields of photography and filmmaking, both of which serve as important tools for my canvasses.

As a photographer, my camera allows me to freeze time itself.  Framing my subject, I wait for the split second image that I seek to catch.

When painting, my time is transformed into an endless space of color and hues, and it seems as if I enfold a part of nature into myself.

Filmmaking involves the magic of the moving image where sound and shape are interrelated. It is a complicated interplay of creative inputs.

Painting is solitary. It deepens my sight and allows me to expand a motif into my own vision.

I still marvel at how I first started to paint and how there are always silver linings in the clouds that sometimes seem to obstruct my path.

Twenty years ago, I suddenly began to lose my hearing. From leading a productive, exciting but frazzled life .... shuttling between Paris, New York and London .... within a few years I had become so deaf that I could barely communicate with my loved ones.

And that is when I started to paint....

With the silence of deafness came peace and the blissful ability to concentrate on the senses still left.

Since then, because of bilateral cochlear implants I have miraculously been given back the ability to hear and again to communicate through sound.

But painting remains my release, my pleasure …. a vocation that found me.”

July 2015 Summer Camp For Kids!

S. E. A. (Science. Environment. Animals.) Camp
It's that time of year again! Where did the year go?

This tried and tested, educational camp is for children aged 6 years and upwards and helps children to learn about what is in and around our beautiful ocean.

Last year, hermit crab racing and exploring rock pools were great hits and all the children loved snorkelling, even if they had never tried it before.

Girlfriend Getaway at Harbour Heights: We had a BLAST, it was PERFECT!!!

In March I was recently down in Grand Cayman with a group of girlfriends. It was a five day girls get-away. We were celebrating a close friend's milestone birthday. It could not have been more perfect!!!

We rented two side by side condos at Harbour Heights and we seriously had one of the best weeks any of us could have ever imagined. From the moment we landed, the fun began. We rented a large SUV that fit us all. Our accommodations were perfect… lots of room for all of us, and the fact that it is steps from the beach made it so easy. Our days were filled with early morning runs or long walks on the beach and lazy afternoons swimming in the pool or ocean or relaxing and reading in the shade. We also managed to fit in a little shopping at Camana Bay, as well as 18 holes of golf at NorthSound Golf Club. We had breakfast and lunch in the condo and had dinner out each night. Every restaurant was wonderful and fun.

As part of the birthday celebration, and truly one of the highlights of the trip was when a private YOGA instructor came to Harbour Heights one morning to lead us in a YOGA practice. This had been prearranged by email through one of the YOGA studios on the island. The mats were set up on the grassy area overlooking the water.  Imagine hearing the ocean and the breeze through the palm trees! It was paradise! When we were done, the YOGA instructor had recommended a woman who catered fresh, organic lunches. She arrived with the most delicious lunch and dessert which was set up in the pool house. Nothing could have been more special.

If anyone is interested in a girls getaway, and YOGA is one of their passions, this trip was everything one could ever ask for!!!
